love yourself.
The average age for teenage girls to have destructive eating behaviours is 15.

One of the rare companies out there which has the consumers’ welfare on its mind, Dove, has launched a campaign to address certain issues which are plaguing the women of today.

Thin, fair, cellulite-free, no wrinkles, high cheekbones, double eyelids. The list goes on. The standards are high, not to mention, unrealistic. But we can’t deny that they exist. We have been socialised to believe that that is beauty. ( Of course, the concept of beauty changes from time to time, we wouldn't be thinking now that we want to look like Greek paintings of women. ) The lack of certain features, or in some cases, addition of unwanted features, is a cause for worry among many women nowadays. I’m sure that all of us, at some point in time, would have contemplated altering a certain part of your body ( I know I have ), and the sad part about it is that, one can never be fully satisfied with how they look.

It doesn’t help that with the increasing accessibility of plastic surgeons ( both local and abroad, I’ve read of plastic surgery getaways, much like the spa packages offered by some tour agencies! ) and the pervasive images of women who have gone under the knife and survived, more and more women are giving some serious thought to that boob/nose job.

The appalling thing being that more and more teens are contemplating plastic surgery. The need to belong, to fit in with peers has just transcended levels to now being a more perverse need to wanting to look “perfect”.

When I was in my teens, I wanted to be taller. I did all sorts of things, just so that my bones will grow more. Then I read about some surgery that was popular in China, where they insert metal plates into your leg bones to increase bone growth. I thought about it for a good five minutes, and then decided that it was not worth it. ( I chickened out on the surgery bit, too much pain and gore ) But I’m not so sure that tactic works nowadays.

At the end of the day, whether you decide to go under the knife or not, you need to love yourself. Cuz’ no one’s going to love you, unless you start by loving you first.

Do your part if you can, support the Dove self esteem fund. Pop by their website,Dove campaign for real beauty.

teenagers these days r going overboard abt how they look. Its pathetic how some Aussie teenagers go for plastic surgery just to look better, while their bodies r still developing!
